Jay Helms was born in Gadsden, Alabama where he attended Glencoe High School. From the time he could walk he not only fished but was exposed to several team sports. Recovering from a torn hamstring he suffered his senior year in high school, he stayed home attending Gadsden State Community College on an athletic scholarship assisting the Cardinals baseball team his freshmen year. Moving onto Jacksonville State University and pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Helms found himself playing football as a walk-on his Junior and Senior years for the Gamecocks. Shortly after graduation he moved to Birmingham, Alabama working support and installation for several software companies. Helms received his MBA from Cardean Univeristy in December 2005 and currently is the Director of Project Management for an outsourced IT company where he also serves as a member of the Executive Management Team.
