The Catch: Costa Rica

Fridays, 10/9c on The Outdoor Channel

Rules

Episode 1

We start out with 12 contestants, fishing individually. Each contestant is paired at random with another contestant. They share a boat with the other contestant but their points are not added together, they are fishing only for their own points. They will all be fishing up river. Each species of fish has a specific point designation. There is no Catch of the Day for the first fishing challenge; it is an open fishing competition. The points for Episode 1 will go as follows:

Snook – 50 points

Rainbow Bass – 25 points

Jaguar Guapote – 20 points

Jack Crevel – 15 points

Machacca – 15 points

Mojarra – 10 points

Any other species of fish larger than the lure – 5 points

Contestants may not help each other reel in a fish. The same goes for the captains of the boat. If anyone other than the contestant who is using the rod touches the reel while a fish is on, then that fish will not count as a catch and there will be no points awarded. Also, if a rod is broken, a new one will be provided.

Any fish that is under question as to its species, the rules board, using expert analysis of the footage, will determine the actual species of the fish. Points will be handed out appropriate to the species in all rulings.

At the end of the first fishing challenge, the points for each contestant are totaled and the top six point getters become captains and will pick their teammate from the other six remaining contestants. This will give us 6 Teams with 2 contestants per team.
